How to progress with piano playing?
by: Ido from www.piano-play-it.com

Hi Chunk,

There are so many things you can play and practice: Hanon exercises, classical music, Jazz music , popular songs etc. I'm not sure what the best thing is for you since I don't know exactly your level of playing.

However, I do recommend you divide your time of practicing into segments. For example, if you have two hours in a day – begin with half an hour of exercises (Hanon or just scales and arpeggios). Then practice a classical piece for half an hour. Now, after an hour of playing, take a break of ten minutes. In the next half an hour you can play a Jazz piece and in the last half an hour you can practice playing chords of songs.

There are so many things to cover in piano music. The secret is to be consistent and to practice the pieces that you play every day for weeks until you feel confident and comfortable with them.

If you want to improve your music reading I recommend you play easy piano sheet music. We have lots of free piano sheets at several levels.

Oh, there is one more thing - reconsider learning with a private piano teacher. Even if you go just for a few lessons, a good teacher can give you tips that will help you a lot in a short time.

I hope that I have helped you,
