"The images and explanations on these piano lessons are so clear!
I can't believe how fast I'm improving... "

Hey! Great to see you here! By now you should be able to read notes on the treble staff and on the bass staff seperately.
Need to go there first? Click here.

"Music is love in search of a word. ~Sidney Lanier".

Today we will learn to read piano notes on both the treble and the bass staff together.
The grand staff is combined of these two staffs. The top staff is for the right hand and the left one is for left hand.
There's an imaginary line which stands for middle C in the middle the staffs.

The grand staff

The staff covers three sets of keys from A-G.

The grand staff (Three Registers)

We don't have to study all the notes right now. I simply want to show you how this works in a layout. For now simply concentrate on the learning to read the notes stated with the letters. We will focus on read these notes in the next few piano lessons.

Three registers in the grand staff
Now, here is a nice realization.
Both clefs are located on the second line in relationship with middle C.
That will help you to read notes faster.
You can always find the G note and the F fast and relate the other notes to these notes.

Now you're basically ready to start and read your favorite piano notes. Here's a nice selection of Easy Piano Sheet Music from ebay.

Mikrokosmos - Volume 1 (Pink)

There are a few books that every beginner piano player should have at home. Mikrokosmos is one of them.

In 1945 Bela Bartok described Mikrokosmos as a cycle of 153 pieces for piano written for didactic purposes, seeing them as a series of pieces in many different styles, representing a small world, or as the world of the little ones, the children.

Stylistically Mikrokosmos reflects the influence of folk music on Bartok's life and the rhythms and harmonies employed create music that is as modern today as when the cycle was written.

The 153 pieces making up Mikrokosmos are divided into six volumes arranged according to technical and musical difficulty.

Major teaching points highlighted in Mikrokosmos 1: Unison melodies, Question and answer, Imitation and Inversion.

Well done my friend! You've made such a long way and now you're ready to play so many pieces.

In the next lesson I'd like to show you how to play harmonic intervals on the grand staff. We will start playing harmony and learn to play some accompaniment parts.
