Need an Advice for Buying an Upright Steinway
by: Ido from www.piano-play-it.com

Hi Carolyn,

Steinway is probably the best piano in the world. Their grand pianos are well known, placed on the greatest stages all over the world, and used for concerts, piano competitions and more.
However, when it comes to an upright piano which is 70 years old I would be careful.
A 70 year old piano has obviously been used very much, by many different hands and may have been moved many times. This may have had a bad effect on the piano and you really don't know if it was maintained properly over the years.

I would recommend your doing the following:

First, check the piano out; play various pieces on the piano to see how it reacts and sounds.
Listen carefully to each of its notes. Open the different parts of the piano and examine their condition.

Second, call a professional to check out the piano. It will be much wiser to pay him for the check out than to buy something you are not sure about. This way you may save future expenses and frustration.

To summarize, it could be a good bargain but only if you check it with the assistance of a professional will you be able to decide whether to buy it or not.

Don't hesitate to ask us further questions,
