Combine the Right and Left hand
by: Ido from www.piano-play-it.com

Hi Kathee,

I know that it is not easy to play simultaneously with both hands. This is one of the major difficulties in playing the piano. As a matter of fact it takes years to develop this skill. Don't worry; There are easier compositions for both hands which can be played easily by total beginners.

Usually, when I teach beginning students a new composition, I tell them to play separately the part of the right hand, then the part of the left hand and finally they learn to play with both hands.
My students always ask me: "Hey, I can play the right hand, or the left hand, separately but combining them...oh, it just doesn?t come out right".

After my students are familiar with the notes of both hands, I ask them to play just the first measure of the piece with both hands.

It may sometimes even take half an hour to play it well! Imagine that... just one measure?
The secret here is patience, patience and more patience.

The good news is that it will take you less than 15 minutes to play well one measure with the same level of difficulty.

Another important issue is correct fingering ? when you play the same measure over and over with the same fingering, your hands will eventually play automatically. This is what you should aim for.

In order to improve coordination skills for piano, practice The Best Piano Exercises for Beginners --> Coordination Exercises . Follow the instructions under each of the exercises and try to master each of them. This will develop your brain's ability to give simultaneously different orders for both hands.

If you have specific questions about a piece or an exercise, please don't hesitate to post us.

"Thank you for your lessons. I took piano lessons as a kid, and I've dabbled off and on for years. My music teacher taught me how to read music and hit all the notes, but I never felt like I was playing for real. I always felt like I was going through the motions, like a machine. Your lessons have changed that, so thanks."

Joshua White from U.S.A
