Problems to keep my fingers under control
by: Ido from www.piano-play-it.com

Hi Stefan,

From what I can see you play fluently with your right hand . while your left hand was "neglected" over the years.
The biggest challenge in playing the piano is to combine playing with both hands; It is like dividing your brain into two parts. This skill should be developed gradually and thoroughly.

Our body is symmetric so there is a natural tendency for the same fingers on the different hands to do the same thing. This is the reason for the difficulty that you have been experiencing with your second finger.

I advise you to take a step back for a while just to develope your coordination.

In order to improve coordination skills for piano, practice The Best Piano Exercises for Beginners --> Coordination Exercises . Follow the instructions under each of the exercises and try to master each of them. This will develop your brain's ability to give different orders for both hands simultaneously.

Try also to play short and easy classical pieces. Practice them until you master them. You can find here plenty of free music sheet for beginners.

It could be a little boring for you to play simple pieces since you already play complicated pieces with your right hand.Nevertheless, I think by doing so your coordination will gradually develop, step by step, progressing steadily..

Hey, just a minute?.. you want to play real stuff like Zelda Theme Song...

OK here is what you should do:

Take just one measure at a time and work on it until you can play it fluently. Be aware that getting full control of one measure only could take you several hours. It is very demanding, but believe me - in the next piece you will get quicker results.

Please let me know how you progress,

"Thank you for your lessons. I took piano lessons as a kid, and I've dabbled off and on for years. My music teacher taught me how to read music and hit all the notes, but I never felt like I was playing for real. I always felt like I was going through the motions, like a machine. Your lessons have changed that, so thanks."

Joshua White from U.S.A
